In celebration, I am going to give away a copy of Better Home and Gardens New Cook Book-Celebrating the Promise. This is an edition that was put out to celebrate the 25th year of the Susan B. Komen Foundation. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the book were given to the foundation.
This was a limited edition of the 14th edition of the New Cook Book. There is a special section at the beginning that contains recipes from celebrity cooks.
Like all good basic cookbooks, besides recipes, there are charts and all kinds of information. Nutritional information is include for the recipe. Inside the front cover is a chart of equivalents.
Inside the back cover is a chart of emergency substitutions.
Beside common recipe topics, this book has a section on cooking basics, canning and freezing, grilling, and 20-minute meals.
Everyone one needs a good basic cookbook in their recipe collection. If you don’t have one, this may be just the chance for you to get one. If you do have one, it would make a great gift for a new bride.
Although I purchased this book several years ago, I did it to support finding a cure for breast cancer. I have an older edition and have never used this one.
To enter to win this book, you do not have to tweet, twitter or “like” on Facebook. All that is required is that you make a comment on this post. Since my “inquiring mind” wants to know, tell me if you have a Better Home and Gardens plaid cookbook, if so, what edition, and what is the name of your favorite recipe from it.
The contest will run through Tuesday, May 15th at midnight PDT. I will draw a winner on Wednesday, May 16th so that I can get the book in the mail before we leave on vacation.
Good luck and thanks again for reading my blog.
How awesome! Congratulations! You go girl!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 100!
ReplyDeleteLet's see, I have a plaid front addition - actually two. One that is an antique that just decorates my self {no sure what year it is from} and then one that my Mama gave me when I got married, so that was 1996. My favorite recipe is the banana bread... I'm sure there are others but that has special memories for me.
I don't have the plaid BHG cookbook, but I really enjoy your blog! My favorite recipe has to be your Boursin Cheese - so very, very good! It's become a staple in our refrigerator!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool giveaway Loy! I do have a very tattered and worn red plaid cookbook received for our wedding 44 years ago. It's the one I run to when I need 'basic' info or recipe. I love the veggies section - how to freeze/cook.
ReplyDeleteI have the red plaid cookbook purchased after I finished college. It is the 11th edition from 1996. I love it so much I even brought it to Australia with me. I don't know if it's my "favourite" recipe but the most used page with the smudges to prove it is "baking powder biscuits" I do them drop style as I can never get them rise if I roll them out and cut them. But they're quick and easy and make a great side dish to round out the meal.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Here's to hundreds more!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 100! I don't have the plaid cookbook, but I've heard great things. :)
ReplyDeleteI really would love to win this cookbook. Like you I collect them and I love to just read them. This is really sweet of you to offer. While I am at it I want to tell you how much I enjoy your blog. It is really informative. I do not knit but do crochet and love crafts. Thanks again for all you do.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 100 and many more coming to a wonderful blog spot so enjoyable to come to and find such delicious recipes. Keep up the good work and you will reach hundreds more in no time. Thanks for the opportunity to participate in the give-a-way drawing.

Hi Loy, I have a Better Homes and Garden plaid cookbook. I don't know what edition it is, but I got it for my wedding. My 20th anniversary is on Wednesday. My and my husband's favorite recipe is the pineapple upside down cake. It is easy and quick to make. I found you at Eat At Home. I would read your comments and recipes before you had a blog.

I don't have a Better Homes and Garden plaid cookbook. I think my mom did. I have several cookbooks, but my favorite recipes usually make it onto cards or pages and put in my recipe box or binder. I also do a lot of online searching for recipes.
